District Office Renovations
We are raising
the roof (literally) at the office. We will be adding a
functional second floor to the office to be finished off
at a later date and also a complete new roof along with
new siding and doors. Exterior portion to be completed
in 2010. Interior finish work will be ongoing in the
future.
Route 12 Pump Station
The Route 12 Pump Station,
located across the street from Wal-Mart, has undergone a
complete rehabilitation. This station was built in the
mid-1960’s and housed a single 500
gallon-per-minute pump and motor, with a back-up propane
engine to drive the pump in the event of a power outage.
This engine was most recently used during the December
2008 Ice Storm to pump water to our Lawrence St. Tanks.
In order to ensure the function of this pump station, we upgraded
the well-used equipment with newer models. We also
included two pumps and motors to provide
backup in the event that a pump or motor should fail.
This project was completed in 2010. Some of the
new equipment that was installed is listed below.
- 480v Electrical
Service and Transformer
- Dual 500gpm Pumps
and Motors with Variable Frequency Drives
- Master Electrical
Panel and Switches
- Heating and
Ventilation system
- Emergency
Generator
- Dual Hydrants for
Emergency Bypass Pumping
- Fire and Smoke
Alarms
Well Exploration Program
The District has been working with the
Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to
locate a new water source to add to the water system.
Preliminary testing done in 2010 on one parcel owned by
the DCR in the Northeast section of West Boylston has
shown promising results. We are currently reviewing
proposals from several engineering consultants to move
forward with the next phase of this well exploration
which includes well drilling, an extended pumping test,
water quality testing, environmental monitoring and the
filing of state and local permits to allow this testing
to be done. We hope to complete this next phase in 2011.
